Trello has a board view of the tasks, and a to-do list views inside the tasks. And that’s pretty much about it. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying it is bad, but if you want a wider perspective of your workflow, then you just can’t do with just a board view.

ProdGoal offers a backlog, board, and roadmap view of its tasks, centralized in one dashboard. The views can be toggled so they don’t get in your way if you have to focus on some other task or a problem.

There are templates to set you off if you are unsure how to start your first project. You can also use the building blocks to slowly upgrade your project.

You can create an unlimited number of boards per workspace. Due to its flexibility, you can choose how simple or complex your workflow is going to be.

Both Trello and ProdGoal let you create an unlimited number of columns on a board. But ProdGoal columns have features like WIP (work in progress) limits, both minimum, and maximum limits, column types, and type categories. You can also define column policies.

WIP limits appear at the top of the column and change the color as you approach the limit or go over the limit, while they don’t stop you from creating or deleting more of them.

The column types are color-coded for easier recognition. They are unlimited also and you can create as many column types as you need. There are 5 built-in type categories to identify the types by.

In ProdGoal, apart from the usual features like renaming and deleting an item, there are item types that help you organize them better.

The item types have their colors which helps you categorize them. Just as item type categories. You can create an unlimited number of item types and item type categories.

ProdGoal’s blocker flagging feature is available on the items, so you can easily communicate with team members if a task is blocked. The item becomes red when you turn this feature on. Trello has this feature only through its Power-ups.

You can assign any number of members who are working on the task. Time an item spent in one of the “ongoing” statuses is displayed next to an hourglass icon on the ProdGoal’s item.

As for item attachments, Trello gives unlimited storage space in its free plan with a limit of 10MB per file. ProdGoal offers 5 MB of internal storage but integration with Google Drive allows you to have unlimited storage space.

here is no limit on users in ProdGoal and you have full control over the invited user’s permissions. In Trello, there is a limit to inviting guests to your workspace, unless you upgrade to the Standard plan.

One useful thing with this feature in ProdGoal is that you can assign a task to members even if a member hasn’t yet accepted the invitation.

One important feature that sets ProdGoal apart from Trello is the next-get roadmap feature. Highly customizable roadmap with unlimited advanced features. You can collapse rows and columns to improve the focus on the important work. Trello has a timeline feature enabled in its Business plan.

There is a rich-text editor to help you point out and format the text to really emphasize the message you communicate to the stakeholders.

Roadmap cards have item relations feature - a relation with board items. It is shown on the roadmap card. When you click on it, the list drops down, showing all connected board items, sorted by status.

One other different feature is groups. They have a separate item view, where you can also arrange items. Groups are an unlimited feature too. Groups automatically estimate when the tasks in it are going to be done. It bases its estimates on historical data. The more items are being put in ”Done status, the more data is provided for the estimate, which will increase its accuracy.
